Much has been expounded on social networking. Here are some tools you may want to consider embracing. I'm doing a fast type out here {doing research at the same time for another project} and thought you might need this as ... its as feasible as the next software on the open source neighborhood.

Connotea - a social bookmarking s/w which you can download and install on your server. Similar to Scuttle, its the next best thing you might seriously want to consider for your online community {make it user friendly} for your members, and they'll love you for it!

ELGG - now this one is interesting to even install and play with. Apart from Dolphin {dating community which you can... if you're up to it - modify to your heart's content!} ELGG establishes personal digital identities and connect with other people, collaborate with them and discover new resources through their connections. Plugins allow users on different social networks to collaborate, and provide specific functionality for tasks like project management, mobile browsing and collaboration through user-controlled wikis.

A foundation platform for many social communities, People Aggregator is available for download and installation into your system. Its interesting to note how this s/w does wonders in areas whereby each end-user will control who has access to their personal data, who can use it and how. Each end-user is able to move their data to other systems – whether it be their personal profile record, list of friends, groups, their photos, MP3s, links, bookmarks or events... and more. Interesting stuff for serious developers to consider!

Google is getting into your private files. If you're storing your archives + passwords in the web root, you're in for a big surprise.

Will Google end-up with legal action?

As many sites run commercially licensed software, Google Code Search is able to crawl the archives and read unparsed PHP files as if they were plain text. This has resulted in the disclosure of some sensitive information including MySQL passwords and SMTP credentials. The potential for future abuse is great if nothing is done now.

What do you do if you're using open source software?

Never store a backup or archived version of your website in a web server's public readable directories.
Do not leave files that you do not want to be read/indexed/searched/downloaded in the web root.
If it is absolutely necessary, make your hosting provider disable directory index generation for that directory.
Password protect directories that contain sensitive information.
Use .htaccess

Albeit you've heard of Google Gadgets! There's loads you can plonk on your website. One of which I found nifty is this fast email thingy. Helps your visitors send msgs from your page. Give them a service, and you'll be loved for all eternity. Thanks Google!

Everything you need to do is with a click and now you can start multitasking like you were designed to be. Even Superman can't do more than two things at a time! Now all you have to do is sign-up and get your life in order! I know someone in my office who needs this badly apart from money!

For those of you who can't, on planet Earth figure out whom I am raving about should click here, and learn how he, and old college mate Paige setup the most-used search engine on the World Wide Web. At a time when all I knew about search engines were either metacrawler dotcom, and Northern Light.

Then came Google and hell, broke loose for Microsoft Corporation. They couldn't even spell it right the first time they wanted to register their domain, but they raked in more than $10B at IPO. These boys are genius'. They finally got the hang of playing algorithms and as much as "The Devil Wears Prada", and "My ex-Super Girlfriend" two movies seen days apart last week, and reading Buber, Merleau-Ponty and Nietzsche, I can't seem to fathom page-ranking anymore. Not that I care, because to have this issue bugging a developer sucks Life out of one.

I want to be able to enjoy the Philharmonic without having to question one's PR on the WWW. Heck, I'm not even thinking of going IPO.. {yet}

There is Life outside the Internet, and you my dear friend, need it as much as your body needs Sunshine! Whilst Google is churning projects after projects, Microsoft has designed the first futuristic school. This $63M school promises utmost security, by introducing children to smart-cards for libraries, to attendance to ordering their canteen food{s}... keeping their "secrets" in lockers... Incorporating the latest environmental designs including photovoltaic window panels designed to reduce electrical costs, I wonder what the logic is behind this project - Can't they just do it with Nano-Biometrics and RFID?.

Sometimes I query, sometimes I don't.

Riahanna's "If It's Lovin' That You Want" is playing in my mind since Saturday. I did not go over to Starbucks this weekend. I wanted to.

The expat in my life seems to be slowly fading into the edges of the tiles most probably made in China, keeping the floors cheaper but pretty enough for contemplation during breakfast, and walking upon. I was struck by a blow of microbes over the weekend that living bohemianly, seemed paltry compared to the pizzas made at San Francisco Pizza's outlet in Taipan. I dread being ill, and immobile. Cashless, I can take for ten years or so, but being ill is alike being stripped off power.

Power, is something else. Without power, even lipsticks and push-up bras seem to not feel right no matter what. You may have all the cash in the world, but without power, even the salad in the Noritake plates look vibrantly alive.

There's a need to change, and AainaA Lifestyle will be undergoing that change soon. The site has been hacked into even with the security patch being updated and all, makes you want to trash everything in the can, and shoot iKORPiTX, the Turkish hacker into smitherins. But you know you can't. You have a responsibility towards change. And killing is barbaric, virtual or otherwise.

I'm not a terrorist, and neither is AainaA Lifestyle's Network of Partners, and friends.

If the Turkish hacker decides that hacking will stop AainaA Lifestyle from moving forwards, he or they are wrong. Its immaturity on their part to show what they're capable of. Immaturity does not get anyway - the Truth will surface no matter what, and hackers {or whatever they get pleasure in besides playing with their sticky dumbshifts!} should be wary, what the Kingdom of Heaven holds for them. I'm not personally involved in any war games with their insipid minds. Albeit they've forgotten the series of earthquakes we have in store for them, not to mention their positioning in EU.

Direct or indirect violence does not help.

Especially when it comes to governing the world in the 21st century. Must be some serious shit that has somehow hit their brains* or the shit they've been consuming is not doing its work anymore - lame ducks trying to target Joomla/Mambo sites like there's no tomorrow.

I spoke to one of my professors at Sorbonne, aoens ago, as to what triggers the unhappy inattentive bugger {a hacker would suffice to be replaced as a synonyme} - well, a plethora of answers really, but mostly

"they're all basically screwed by their parents who were screwed by their grandparents.. and the never ending cyclic event stemming from their unwillingness to get out of hell, or the approach to rhetorics due to depleted uranium in their neighbourhood... or something to that effect!"

We've heard over the Web lately of Ajax. If you're a developer, you'd most likely have heard of it, and if you're a layperson like moi, you'd most likely think its a dishwashing liquid or something.

Ajax or Asynchronous Javascript and XML as it was first termed, is shorthand for Javascript UI development, particularly Javascript development that uses the XMLHttpRequest object.

Some applications that you're likely to find Ajax implemented commonly is our favourite webmail program, from Zimbra and Gmail.

Gaming Ergonomics

Okay.

I would seriously have to re-consider this as an environmental gadget or even a gadg!

I wouldn't for the love of lipsticks and push-up bras even consider buying it. It doesn't make sense, at least for me. I can somehow see weights added to that, and likely a comfy leather upholstery. Who'd want to invest in something that looks like a gym equipment? Who'd want to be the centerpiece in a game? Unless you're playing one of the adult games, you don't need this!

Maybe gamers, but players can be fussy. I know I am.

Good Ergonomics = Good Economics ?

The Designers at PCE turned the idea of a gaming or computer station inside out, making players the comfortable centerpiece of an integrated digital command center, with high performance computing, gaming and entertainment technology at their fingertips.

What's the drift here? Care to expound if you're a furniture designer?

I must tell you something that happened to me last night. Its not often I laugh at myself, but this event is something I will remember until I loose my mind again.

After having a tedious time working and figuring what the hell I was doing at the office, I took the cab home to the suburbs where I live. It takes approximately an hour to reach “home” from Kuala Lumpur where I work.

I arrived home at about 11:30 in the evening. My parents were already sleeping upstairs in their air-conditioned nest. Having had a good lunch with Prince Charming, and Pooh Bear, my tummy wrestled for another meal. I couldn't resist the Nestle Cornetto. My mouth needed another exercise. Besides I was thinking of playing “Age of Empires” just before hitting the sack.

Having opened the ice-cream and blissfully enjoying it… I heard a weird strange noise like a whistling coming from outside the house. My bedroom cubicle is on the ground floor, and faces the road.

I decided to continue licking the ice-cream, pampering my tongue to the fullest exercise you can ever imagine. Forget the fat that I'm going to add in a couple of minutes around my tummy, hips and …

Suddenly I was awaken. Mummy had entered my room this morning, and screamed.

“What's that on your face?” she yelled, excitedly. Still in the half-sleep and half-wake stage, I dragged myself out of bed.

“Guess what Mummy?”
“Don't ask” she said
“I had a chocolate mask last night” I added, looking at myself in the mirror laughing hysterically like the Mad Hatter

I fell asleep whilst enjoying my Cornetto ice-cream.

I related this to the Tasmanian Devil in our office, and we burst out laughing.

Blogging + Forum Updates

When I first started my web presence way back last century just before the dotCom crash, I did everything by hand.

Graphics were either drawn or sketched and then scanned, and coloured on Paint Shop Pro's application software, and thereafter saved as jpg or gif; animation created frame by frame in gif or saved into from KPT instead of Flash since Flash was virtually still on the blueprint drafting table. I was also smitten by KPT's range of plugins that took most of my online learning time. Updating hardcoded scripting before simple CMS were created was tedious indeed, but I enjoyed the time spent learning hands-on, on everything webby.

Did I tell you I was once a sponge in my other life?

I had an idea of creating an application and would have called it a CMS. Of course at the time, I lacked knowledge in anything and everything technology. Now, I know what the acronym LMAO means. {It's an improvement don't you think?}

As I contemplate which MontBlanc or Dupont Fountain pen I should get myself or which Tiffany jewelry I should dream of gracing my finger, I decided to update /local/OK/ with updates on what's going on in the Open Source world.

Plainblack has just released its version 7.

I suggested this CMS extraordinaire {its also an application framework!} to a colleague, but he's more versatile with PHP. Perl is not difficult. Besides its more stable. Of course, PHP is much easier to fathom, but Perl whether we like it or not is a tested language.

It doesn't tease too much.

I tried working on Plainblack a few years back, and found it to be nifty, and quite simple. Albeit now, it has developed into something beyond Joomla + other WCMS put together. Many debutant webmasters avoid Plainblack primarily because most new wave {Web!} designers of the 21st century talk php or LAMP {no, not Gwen Stefani's LAMB}

Before I started using Mamboserver {now, Joomla} as a blogging tool, most of my blogging were collated on a Perl based system.

I also tried working with Nucleus, and had pratically tried almost all blogging software from Wordpress to b2evolution, LDU and MT. The thing about installing your downloaded software application required learning from chmod{ing} to ftp{ing} and tweaking, and all I wanted to do then was to upload my words and just write away my thoughts.

Duh? I am a writer

Most developers fail to see the user-friendly pseudo-flow of how the world is like. Not every writer, not everyone is a developer, and not every human need to be programmers before using an application.

We need simple software with plugins and modules. Think end users who aren't geeks!

Not a fantastic blogging tool bloated with tools we may never use as a writer in the first place. Developers might heed this, and just make some profits selling plugins, modules and components which when charged at say 1 Euro, would and could equate to a couple of million if the bots are pluggable and simple to install like what Mamboserver / Joomla did when creative professional developers decided to interactively command their brains to reprocess their thoughts.

Nucleus is a blogging application. And it can be more than that if you took time to study the documentation and help files. With enough imagination, any blogging software can be turned into an NMS. Nucleus is systematic in its GInterface {gui-interface} and considering the simplicity of its ware, it is bound to evolve and turn into something more than just another CMS. Consider testing Nucleus, or read testimonials by satisfied clients, worldwide.

There are many excellent forum board software which is equally satisfying to use until a security breach is executed.

Apart from phpBB, aterr, cutecast... Vanilla is the next most minimalist forum software you should seriously consider if discussions are more important than, cosmetics. What I like about Vanilla is in its simplicity for usage. You don't have to be an intermediate expert in programming to understand anything about getting your personal forum online. Vanilla facilitates online discussion to a T.

It is definately going somewhere, and aesthetically Vanilla is akin to a Haagen!, and it is multilingual too!

Flightgear reminded me of a simulation I used to play during the heydays of DOS. You'd be surprised what game developers are up to these days. You'd think Electronic Arts would actually look into these boys {+ gals} who are talented and passionate about their work, and make them an offer non? Well.. If you happen to be an Angel, you might want to give them a turbo booster of a chance and do something more by offering this simulation a step ahead.

The goal of the FlightGear project is to create a sophisticated flight simulator framework for use in research or academic environments, for the development and pursuit of other interesting flight simulation ideas, and as an end-user application.

Flightgear is available for Windows, Linux, OSX, BSD & ... Drop by and get a copy and have it installed. You'd be surprised at the simplay!

Racer

Racer is not a game.

It is a Racing Car simulation. Now, I'm a bit confused, but I'm sure my sister-in-law can explain the edge of Automative engineering. An opensource program, this software helps future automative engineers, design cars and tracks using real car physics to get a realistic feeling. Now you know how this gets going when you opt to get one of racing games installed in your system.

Sauerbraten

Soon to be an RPG game Sauerbraten {a.k.a. Cube 2} is something you might want to consider downloading and installing in your system. Its graphics are second to none to some of the best commercial games out there, and its source code is amazingly opensource. If you think most developers are tied to big-time companies and you're a student game developer, you might want to check out the code, and learn something from it. You might want to consider working on this as the engine behind this awesome game is seamless and world editing becomes possible where appropriate to the concept.

Internet Developers are getting more and more innovative these days. I tell you, when I have the time to scour the Web, for research and keeping in contact with friends {mostly developers themselves}, I see more and more dwelling into the future of what the Web would look like for your great-grand children. Albeit in another millennia or so, the Net will NOT be like what you're currently experiencing.

Remember the television, and the first generation of mobile phones?

These days everything is packed into small packages, and Net applications and sites, are getting seriously nifty. But if you want just an ordinary hard-coding site, you'll have to turn back the clock, or check the archives at your local traditional libraries.

Advanced Reality, a developer of software that makes existing and new applications collaborative for example, has recently launched JYBE. Try to pronounce that, and you'll get a plethora of sounds from different tongues! The company has developed a browser that actually allows you to to make SKYPE Calls, Share Documents, and Send Invitations from Internet Explorer and Firefox, amongst others.

No, I did not download the application.

I'm seriously re-defining the idea of downloading. Strictly to scripts, mp3s', videos and ... ebooks {for now}. There are many things on the Internet that is distracting me from work, and you know me, I just love toys {gadgets!} and new application ideas, that I may end up online 24/24 like ten years ago. Besides, I need to work, and it demands my attention!

Flock is a new browser for Windows/Mac/Linux. The thing about Flock is that it is gooeyly user-friendly and hip! I recently upgraded to a smartphone.

I was using a 2650 earlier on, a flip phone that was good enough for basic needs. But when it came to checking my emails, chatting or even reading e-books, the 6630 is the mid-level Symbian 60 "smart" phone that you might want to invest in. This phone came in timely for me, since I've left the T42 at home, safe in its safebox, away from prying eyes and clumsy fingers

I know.. I know... its been in the market for more than two years, but I can only afford it then {3rd June 2006}. It was a good purchase, as I've upgraded the Memory Card to 512MB, only to find a 1GB staring at me at a Kiosk at the Kelana LRT Station for only RM120. {That will happen to be in my phone next month, when I've slogged my butts out!}

In my excitement to read the manual before using it - I found to my dismay, that the manuals were all in Italian. Duh? Thank gawd, this phone comes with French, German, and English, not to mention some other non-Latin based European language. I would most likely assume, as in my previous phone, the Asian Edition spoils the aesthetic value when you know its a European made, even if its being assembled in the Republic of China, or elsewhere cheaper.

This phone is addictive. It plays MP3s too, and you can convert your audio files to a bitrate suitable for your phone. And if you're into designing themes and wallpapers, this phone displays a brilliant edginess to its pixels, making your eyes turn around as if you've just turned ten, or found a lollipop in the sandpit.

Wring their necks for insisting today is not a holiday. Next time I get a lead, I'll not tell them, and let them come to the office, slog their butts out, whilst I bask away, tanning myself.

I think someone is accessing my system network - all of a sudden everything is kinda slow. Which calls for a quick scan-check on the network... or at best a force reboot.

Besides, after having "lent" my external 40gb USB pendrive to Prince Charming, the files are not working anymore. Trust Prince Charming - he should know that I don't like my files tempered with... amongst others. But Princes Charmings aren't geeks - otherwise they'd know exactly the Code.

I'm tired.

I don't have enough sleep. I was thinking of taking time off everything, and sleep. Then I remembered I had to attend a meeting this afternoon with a local ISP.

Gawd! I need more time in a day.
At least 8760 hours. That would be like a vacation wouldn't it?

I haven't had time to view the Hotel where I'll be staying in Kuala Lumpur. For short term stay in Kuala Lumpur, the next best bet apart from costly service apartments would be hotel rooms. Apartments are leased at least for twelve months. I don't intend to stay forever in Malaysia, besides you never know when you'll be leaving. {for the next world - no, its not morbid - a reality check!}

I figured if the images are not showing on this page, its because the template I'm using is a linkware, and apparently this theme is pretty popular, and the guy who designed it has literally used up his bandwidth. Oh well, looks like I have to either design my own {when I can find the time} or bear the consequences of

I've also spent my allowance on toiletries, and bad food. I seriously need a makeover. Hibernation is good, but that's like being a hermit in the cold... or an ostrich head in the sand. I bought my second fiction yesterday. My first was Le Petit Prince, but then again, Le Petit Prince is like a guide to living sanely, the sort of Chicken soup for something.

I don't think I can read fiction ever again {unless its written by Dina, or me!}. It can be pretty boring. Some writers who get great reviews aren't really good writers, especially when they write fiction. I have to trash that book "Some Like It Haute" - its seriously boring me to tears. I was an Haute Couture mannequin in the eighties, but this book bastardize{d} every emotion. I didn't realise Fashion Editors can be neurotic and ...

An excellent idea getting ready for Web 2.0

Do you know what it's like to work in an outfit of what seems to be like an outcast of odd souls from all over only to discover after a month that they're part extension of your thoughts, pre-conceived ideas, and at best siblings from a mutual Adam, and Eve?

In Etcetera, a blog on my semi-personal site, I've mentioned earlier that each strand of "Intelligence" perceived living perception of entity {hidden or otherwise} are interconnected, like the yarns of an intricate, oppulent Persian Carpet {Imagine the world flat, and the intricacy of how the Outwardly Manifest is being projected from your holographic mind}. As each breath is connected from and to the Universe, as a LIVING entity, so too are beings within the Universe.

Imagine now, as you read these lines that these words do actually beat within your heart. If you can't imagine because what I'm typing here seems surreal, you know its really coming from your heart. All because your heart is connected to mine, his connected to hers, your's connected to theirs, theirs connected to the community which is connected to the state and thereafter connected to continents and worlds apart; and finally the last as in the beginning connected to the Living Heart of the Universe; like a huge wavelet interconnected in a dance of Love.

...One thought from a myriad of perceived minds, speech from speakerphones you call mouths, and sight from eyes that record each notch of events only to be unveiled when the the finished carpet displays its oppulence to be admired, appreciated and "read" by the Weaver of the Story.

In reality, one is incapable of veiling one's thoughts, even if its condensed in the densest of rocks, since the Naked Mind perceives every slight pattern of the unveiled universe in its total awareness of being, of being aesthetic. For the mind, as you've learnt is a powerful tool, and you are beyond what may ever be perceived by a veiled {unawakened} entity.

Perception is everything - and extremely plastic!

Symptom, Not A Disease

Ten years ago, I stopped sleeping at night. Doctors proclaimed that I have insomnia. The odd thing is I was never effected by the after-effect of the common disorder.

It is estimated that 50 to 70 million Americans chronically suffer from a disorder of sleep and wakefulness, hindering daily functioning and adversely affecting health and longevity. The cumulative long-term effects of sleep loss and sleep disorders have been associated with a wide range of deleterious health consequences including an increased risk of hypertension, diabetes, obesity, depression, heart attack, and stroke.

Now that I'm turning One Octagon year so to speak {which is about a quadrillion quantum years in your lifetime} stretching has become such a pleasure.

On the bed, that is.

Sleep is such a pleasure. And I'm glad that I'm making it a habit these days. I have not tried sleeping pills, and I don't intend to start now., although I have tried...

Reading boring books {hoping to catch a quick wink - it never worked. I ended up reading the trash!}
Listening to nature cds {hoping to be lulled into a deep sleep - never worked. I ended wanting to meditate instead!}
Drinking warm milk {hoping to burp like a babe - never worked - instead, I was dying for some original Oreos - in Asia Pacific, the best Oreos are the imported ones from the US of A!}
Warm showers {in this heat - I wouldn't advise, as soon as I get out of the bath, I jump into it again, hoping to catch Moby Dick in the tub!}

An atypical mistake when setting up a business is not researching the market

A frequently overlooked component of business start up is determining whether the target market for your product or service will buy from you. The best way to derive the answer to this question is to ask them. Arrange to speak to as many of your potential customers as possible. Questions to ask include: Would you buy my product or service? Where do you currently obtain this product or service? How much would you be willing to pay for it? What do you like/dislike about your current provider? Where would you look for this product or service when you need it?

Socialware, next killer application for the 21st century?

I think so, but then again at the stage my mind is being fed with e-Vitamins, I could be wrong.

Everyone, who is anyone these days with a penchant for control wants to collect {yes! you think they'd actually want to create a social network for anything less?} vCards, and information about you, the next President of your country, or perhaps the next Fortune 500 CFO / CEO / COO.

Information like that cost a bomb. American Express pays a lot for that type of information. Its all about business, and if you're looking to make money out of it, why not? As long as you do not infringe on something like selling your members short of something.

Everyone does it. Except me.

I found Igloo exciting. It's a socialware that will, if spent time on can make your organization as good, if not better than OpenBC. Are you apt at making money on the net? Google Adsense is intrusive, and that's why you'll never see it here on this blog. Yes, you'll find it on my semi-personal site, but that site's gonna change too in the next couple of months.

Whilst I contemplate getting my own dedicated server, perhaps also selling off my T42 {the original IBM - not the Lenovo}, you might want to grab a copy of Igloo. Its hip, young and Scandinavian.

Expert? I wouldn't in my lifetime, even contemplate tooting my own horn and sell myself short. Being a perfectionist is difficult as it is, that to proclaim oneself an expert is simply scandalous. Then again, most people I have the priviledge of meeting tend to be experts and unabashedly adore proclaiming themselves experts in something, if not for Viagra's sake!

He added, that most of the people he has interviewed {mostly males} have unabashedly toot*d their horns, and proclaim expertise in something or the other.

"euh.. how can one be an IT expert, when everything techno changes every ottosecond?" I added. Unless one is an infobot, or at best a spider with accrued AI, I cannot see the logic behind it.

I rolled my eyes. {I love doing that! my previous employer said its a dead giveaway to my being condescending - yeah right! I was born last night}

It takes a lifetime to become human. I wonder how long it takes to become an expert.

I found a brilliant ware. I wouldn't call it a CRM or something because an extended open source CRM like Zimbra should be termed just that.

Next Killer App besides Limewire and the P2P OS, would be Zimbra! Its seriously a great application for your Company, or Organisation.

I communicated with David {their Snr. Account Executive} and found that they can allocate a generous discount for NGOs. So if you're a Non-Profit Foundation, chances are this is the next best application that you'd definitely NOT want to avoid. You have to plonk it in your server, and make the lives of others around you less miserable.

I tried to "convince" our Exec. Director in looking into this, but you know how Directors are like - they want the best ... for almost free. Even if its OS {Open source}, the modules are worth paying for. I'd even pay membership fee just so I could use this.

Definitely something your techie dept might seriously want to consider!
