Nokia 6630
I recently upgraded to a smartphone.

I was using a 2650 earlier on, a flip phone that was good enough for basic needs. But when it came to checking my emails, chatting or even reading e-books, the 6630 is the mid-level Symbian 60 "smart" phone that you might want to invest in. This phone came in timely for me, since I've left the T42 at home, safe in its safebox, away from prying eyes and clumsy fingers

I know.. I know... its been in the market for more than two years, but I can only afford it then {3rd June 2006}. It was a good purchase, as I've upgraded the Memory Card to 512MB, only to find a 1GB staring at me at a Kiosk at the Kelana LRT Station for only RM120. {That will happen to be in my phone next month, when I've slogged my butts out!}

In my excitement to read the manual before using it - I found to my dismay, that the manuals were all in Italian. Duh? Thank gawd, this phone comes with French, German, and English, not to mention some other non-Latin based European language. I would most likely assume, as in my previous phone, the Asian Edition spoils the aesthetic value when you know its a European made, even if its being assembled in the Republic of China, or elsewhere cheaper.

This phone is addictive. It plays MP3s too, and you can convert your audio files to a bitrate suitable for your phone. And if you're into designing themes and wallpapers, this phone displays a brilliant edginess to its pixels, making your eyes turn around as if you've just turned ten, or found a lollipop in the sandpit.

I love my new phone. Its equipped with...

  • Qur'an Reader - As I read the Qur'an for the pleasure of learning Arabic
  • Metro - Just in case I get lost in Bulgaria or somewhere I've not been before
  • MobiReader - I don't carry paperback books anymore, unless it books compiled by Ali Unal, or written by Said Nursi
  • SpodRadio - Ah, the perfect Radio utility tool for the S60 series
  • Weather - Checking what the weather is in London, just in case I need to pack a brolly for an immediate leave
  • AvantGo - This is serious business, my friend - Its jampacked with real news - no more reading paper. The only paper I'm attracted to these days, are those that exchange hands
  • Fr. Bubble - This game is annoying, and addictive. The 6630 keypad is too small for my fat stodgy fingers
  • Multichess - The bliss of online gaming
  • Journey - Remember Ultima?
  • Sensor - The Joys of Flirting
  • Netomat - Creating your blog, network amongst other things
  • YahooGo! - No introduction here

... and more, waiting to be installed and cramped into that memory card.

You might equally want to check out these sites, if you have an S60 phone yourself, or if you're a developer trying to figure what next to develop and make your way to Geekdom!

I know someone in our Executive Suite, will be most likely rushing there now, to download these in his phone ;-)

Enjoy!
